Tayo Bailey

Tayo Bailey '06

Tayo Bailey recently completed her sixth season as the head coach of Butler's women's tennis program.

Bailey led the Bulldogs as the program transitioned to the Atlantic 10 Conference for the 2012-13 season, which was her first as Butler's head coach. The following season, Butler made the move to the BIG EAST Conference.

Her six-year tenure as the leader of the Bulldogs included winning a BIG EAST Tournament match in four of her five seasons. Butler's women's tennis program is among just 85 teams that have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards every year of the 13-year-old program. Teams are awarded for ranking among the top 10 percent of their respective sports based on their most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rates (APR). The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams.

The former all-conference player for the Bulldogs was hired as head women's tennis coach at Butler University in June 2012.

The Chicago, Ill., native replaced former long-time coach Jason Suscha, who coached the women's program for 13 seasons and served as Bailey's coach during her playing career at Butler. Following graduation, Bailey stayed around the program as Suscha's women's assistant coach for two seasons. Butler advanced to the Horizon League championship match in both seasons she was on staff. She then spent time as a tennis professional and fitness trainer at various spots in Miami and Chicago before spending two years as a pro at the Goldfine-Smatt International Tennis Academy in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

Bailey, a 2006 Butler graduate, was a three-time first team All-Horizon League standout for BU. She is one of 25 players in that conference's history to earn first team honors at least three times. Additionally, she helped Butler to three appearances in the conference tournament final.

Bailey sported a 74-46 singles record at Butler, including a 25-10 mark as a junior in 2005. She had a winning record in each of her four seasons as a college tennis player.

A volunteer member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Midwest Section Collegiate Varsity Subcommittee, Bailey earned her degree in biology in 2006. She also earned a master's degree from Nova Southeastern.
