Conner Varney, who worked alongside Ronald Nored with the Atlanta Hawks for three seasons, joined Nored’s initial Butler coaching staff as the Director of Strategy and Video in May of 2026.
In this role at Butler, Varney leads the program’s operations related to video and analytics. This includes managing film breakdown, scouting data analysis, player tracking, and equipment to support Butler coaches and players.
Varney had been with the Atlanta Hawks since 2023. He served as the head video coordinator for two seasons before spending the 2025-26 season as a coaching associate. Nored and Varney worked together on Quin Snyder’s staff for each of those three seasons.
As a coaching associate with the Hawks, Varney managed coaching analytics including opponent scouting, postgame reports, and team self-evaluation reports. He assisted with game strategy and preparation, special situations, and dead ball offense. Varney also assisted with Coach's Challenge recommendations in-game.
His NBA experience extends to both the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz. Varney served as the assistant video coordinator with the Suns during the 2022-23 season. He held several roles during five seasons with the Jazz, culminating as the assistant video coordinator during the 2021-22 campaign following stints as the player development, advanced scouting and video associate for two seasons, and a broadcast assistant/statistical researcher for two seasons dating back to 2017.
