Butler University Athletics

John Flannery returned to Butler in September of 2025 in the role of Director of Athletics Communications. In this position, Flannery serves as the primary communications contact for Butler's women's basketball, football, baseball and women's swimming programs. 

Flannery most recently was part of Georgetown University's communications team. In his Assistant Director of Athletic Communications role, he was the primary contact for the Hoyas' baseball, women's soccer and cross country programs, while also serving as the secondary contact for the men's basketball program. He previously held the positions of communications assistant and communications manager at Georgetown. 

Flannery was a member of Butler's communications staff in 2021 and 2022, serving as the primary contact for women's lacrosse during the 2021-22 season. He also assisted with men's basketball social media and worked in media operations for the 2021 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament games that were held at Hinkle Fieldhouse. 

He is a 2021 graduate of Butler and earned his masters degree in Sports Management Athletic Administration from Georgetown in 2024. 

His wife, Elizabeth, is also a Butler graduate. The couple resides in Indianapolis.
