Butler University Athletics

Thomas J. Fischer M.D. is an orthopedic surgeon at the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center in Indianapolis. A 1972 Butler grad and former Butler football player, he received his orthopedic training at the University of Washington in Seattle.

After completing a hand fellowship at the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center, he requested an additional six months of microvascular surgery training at Duke University, and six months of hand education at multiple centers in Europe before joining us in practice. Dr. Fischer is a master educator, with a primary focus on skeletal fixation. Residents from the Indiana University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery rotate with Dr. Fischer for their hand surgery exposure.

In addition, he is an active and highly visible part of the IHSC fellowship training program. He also currently resides on the Board of Trustees of Butler University.
