INDIANAPOLIS - Natalie Wichern, a standout
setter for local high school powerhouse Brebeuf Jesuit,
has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for
Butler. She will suit up for the Bulldogs this fall.
Wichern, a four-year starter at Brebeuf, was an all-state and
three-time All-Marion County performer. She was twice named to the
Indianapolis Star Super Team. Nationally, she has been recognized
as a Top 250 Senior and was a finalist for 2009 National Sophomore
of the Year.
"We are thrilled to add a setter of Natalie's caliber to our
lineup," head coach Sharon Clark said. "She is one of the top
setters in the state of Indiana and comes from a volleyball
powerhouse in Brebeuf Jesuit. Natalie is a proven
winner."
Wichern owns Brebeuf's school record with 3,981 career assists.
She led her team to a 34-1 record and state title in 2009 and a
state runner-up finish in 2010. Brebeuf posted a 105-20 record
during Wichern's four seasons.
Wichern, an honor roll student, played for Brian Murray in high
school and for Team
Indiana and coaches Kristin Ahaus and Butler alum Sara
Marshall. She helped Team Indiana to a third-place finish at AAU
national tourney in 2010 and was named All-American.
Wichern will join 10 returning letterwinners from last season's
Butler team. BU also added transfers Morgan Peterson (Middle Tennessee) and
Erica Stahl (Cincinnati) in the offseason.
