INDIANAPOLIS - Kelly Findley, who has
coached the Butler men's soccer team to the NCAA Tournament in each
of the past two years, has accepted an offer to become head men's
soccer coach at North Carolina State University.
“I would like to thank Athletic Director Debbie Yow, David
Horning and Chris Kingston, as well as the rest of the search
committee for the opportunity to lead Wolfpack men's soccer,”
Findley said. “NC State soccer has a rich tradition of
excellence on and off of the field, and I look forward to working
with the great alumni, players, parents and fans that support our
program."
In five seasons at Butler, Findley took the program to new
heights. He coached the team to a 59-25-15 record and four
consecutive winning seasons. This past season was the program's
finest, as Butler was one of two teams in the nation to remain
undefeated in the regular season. The Bulldogs won the Horizon
League's regular season and tournament titles and gained a national
seed and bye in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. The Bulldogs
finished 16-1-3 on the year, and were ranked as high as No. 5 in
the nation.
In 2009, the Bulldogs climbed into the top 10 nationally,
winning the Horizon League and finishing 14-3-2. Butler advanced to
the second round of the NCAA tourney and was a national seed in the
tournament.
Findley came to Butler after five seasons on the staff at
Charlotte. During his time with the 49ers, the team went 42-40-14.
He was also the head coach at Mars Hill College for two
seasons.
The Butler coach was a four-time Most Valuable Player as an
undergraduate on the men's soccer team at Judson College n in
Elgin, Ill. He was a three-time NAIA All-American, a
three-time NCCAA All-American, and a two-time NSCAA All-American as
a midfielder. He was named the Northern Illinois
Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year for three consecutive
seasons, and he was named Judson's Athlete of the Year in
1990. Findley helped Judson to its first NCCAA National
Tournament championship in 1991, and he finished his collegiate
career fifth on Judson's all-time assist chart with 48 career
assists. He was named to Judson's Athletic Hall of Fame
in 2005.
Butler will begin immediately a search for Findley's
replacement.
