Butler Earns BIG EAST Win over Creighton

MILWAUKEE – The men's tennis team improved to 10-8 overall with an impressive 5-2 win vs Creighton on Saturday afternoon. The Bluejays started the day by earning the doubles point, but the Bulldogs came fighting back to record five wins during singles competition.

Tommy Marx posted the first point of the day for Butler by defeating Aaron Chulstrom 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.  The 'Dogs tied the contest at 2-2 with an Austin Woldmoe winner over Elliott Baker 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 and Butler would never look back as they recorded victories in the final three single matches of the day to earn the win.

Brandon Woods came up with a clutch 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 4 singles and Sam O'Neill kept the BU momentum alive with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 3. The final singles match to finish was the matchup between Billy Weldon and August Nysted. Weldon won the three-set event 7-6, 4-6, 6-2.

Two quick games evened the playing field in doubles play. Butler took the early lead with an 8-3 win at No. 3 behind the strong play of Marx and Alex Woldmoe. Creighton pulled even with an 8-4 win at No. 2. The doubles point would be decided between the top two teams as O'Neill and Weldon took a tough 8-7 (3) loss to the Bluejays.
