INDIANAPOLIS – Butler was unable to complete the three-game sweep against Xavier as the Musketeers recorded a 16-2 win over the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. Xavier opened the game with seven runs through the first four innings of action and a nine-run fifth-inning would end Butler's chances at the sweep.

Extra base hits hurt the Bulldogs as Xavier recorded three home runs and five doubles to earn the big win. Butler posted seven hits on the scoreboard, most of which came late in the game.

Brodie Meyer, Chip Bouchard, Dan Busch, and Michael DiViesti all showed heart by recording singles for Butler late in the action. Rounding out the hit total were base knocks from Marcos Calderon, Quincy Quintero and Austin Miller who now holds a nine-game hitting streak.

Jeff Schank and Will Schierholz each performed well on the mound for Butler in the later stages of the game, but the damage had been done as Peter Nyznyk was hit with the loss. Nyznyk was replaced by Kyle Allen who tossed a full inning before handing the ball off to Danny Pobereyko. Kyle Kramp also made an appearance, throwing 0.2 innings.

The win went to Vinny Nittoli who improves to 5-2 on the year. Jason Hall came in for the final two innings after Nittoli allowed two late runs.

Butler will return to action with a mid-week contest vs. Indiana State. The game will be played at Victory Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. with gates opening at 2 p.m.
