@ButlerWBB Takes Down Arkansas 63-57

Box Score

INDIANAPOLISMichelle Weaver dropped a career-high 19 points in Butler's 63-57 win over Arkansas on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs held the Razorbacks to just 27 percent shooting from the field, while connecting on 46 percent of their shots.

Weaver got off to a hot start and it would continue throughout the contest allowing the freshman point guard to net a team-high 19 points. She finished the game 7-for-10 from the field and also contributed with four big free throws down the stretch when Arkansas was trying to climb back in the game late in the fourth quarter.

Sydney Buck and Blaire Langlois joined Weaver in double figures with Buck scoring 15 and Langlois adding 11. Buck hit three, 3-point field goals including a triple in the final moments of the third quarter that allowed BU to outscore the Razorbacks 17-10. The lopsided third quarter paired with a strong showing in the second allowed BU to build a lead that would hold for the rest of the game.

The two teams came together at 20-20 after the opening 10 minutes with Arkansas feeding the ball to the post and Butler sticking around with their high shooting percentage. With the Razorbacks winning the inside battle, Butler switched out to a 2-3 zone which turned the momentum of the game.

Tori Schickel would miss her second consecutive game due to injury which forced Butler to play with just two forwards in Belle Obert and Brittany Ward. Obert played tough on the inside, but would battle foul trouble in the second half. She ended the game with five points, six rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals. Ward also battled down low for BU to finish the contest with nine points, seven rebounds and a steal.

With Obert on the bench with four personals and Ward limping to the locker room at the start of the fourth quarter, BU was forced to play Alexa Bailey and Langlois down low on the 2-3 zone. Each player held their own on the block with Langlois grabbing six rebounds and Bailey collecting a career-high five.

The Razorbacks did grab 23 offensive rebounds, allowing them to score 19 second chance points, but it wasn't enough as Butler was able to snap their three-game losing streak with the win.

Butler will return to action on Monday, Dec. 21 when they travel to Terre Haute to face the Indiana State Sycamores at 6:05 PM. The matchup between the two in-state rivals will signal the end of non-conference play for the 2015-16 season. BIG EAST competition will begin with a pair of home games on Dec. 29 and 31.
