Langlois Lifts Butler to Victory at Georgetown

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior guard Blaire Langlois set a new school record in Butler's 65-56 victory over Georgetown on Sunday by making nine 3-point field goals. Langlois nearly scored half of Butler's points in the win, finishing the contest with a career-high 32 points.

With the win, Butler improves to 13-13 overall with a 9-6 record in the BIG EAST. They completed the regular season sweep over the Hoyas, but more importantly snapped a four-game losing streak that started at the first of the month.

Langlois provided Butler with 15 first half points after knocking down five 3-point field goals. Her first make from distance came with 10:41 remaining in the first half, but that was just the tip of the iceberg as she went back-to-back from long range moments later to give BU a 20-19 lead. Her third triple of the game was a heat check as the combo guard hit from well behind the arc.

With Ijeoma Uchendu in foul trouble and Loryn Goodwin not seeing playing time, Langlois took control of the game and again went off for back-to-back 3-point field goals in consecutive trips down the floor to give Butler their largest lead of the first half at six points. Logan Battle and Faith Woodard would chip away at the lead, but the Bulldogs would hold onto the lead at halftime 32-27.

The start of the second half couldn't have started much better for Bulldogs fans as the team scored seven-straight points to open up a 13-point lead at 40-27. Buck and Langlois each hit from distance while Andriana Moore added a pair of free throws. The BU lead would stay around 10 points until the 12 minute mark when the Hoyas went on an 8-1 run to get within four points at 44-40. Reserve guard Justyce Swango hit a 3-point field goal to get Georgetown within four, but Langlois wouldn't be outdone as she put the scoring run to an end with her seventh 3-pointer of the game, tying the school record.

Georgetown would make yet another push after the Langlois triple with Yazmine Belk recording the three-point play to get back within four. The play was a signature moment in the contest as Uchendu recorded her fifth personal foul of the game with 9:09 remaining. She finished the day with just six points and two rebounds, all of which came in the first half.

Langlois would once again come up huge for the Bulldogs as she stretched the Butler lead to seven points on the following possession with her eighth 3-point field goal of the game, breaking the old school record of seven set by multiple players. Langlois would score 10 points following the loss of Uchendu for the game. Her ninth 3-point field goal of the game would give BU an eight point advantage and put her just one shy of Maya Moore's BIG EAST single-game record.

The hot shooting of Langlois combined with a late 3-point field goal from Sydney Buck and the strong play of Lexus Murry got Butler to the finish line where they are now all alone in fourth place of the BIG EAST standings.

Murry jumped into the starting lineup and provided the Bulldogs with nine points, a career-high eight assists and five rebounds. Matching her efforts was the high level of play from Belle Obert and Andriana Moore who played a large role in the outcome of the game with Uchendu limited to just 18 minutes.

Belle Obert pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds and moved into tie for third place all-time at Butler with eight blocked shots in a single-game. Moore carved out space in the paint to score seven points and add seven rebounds in 29 minutes of playing time.

Logan Battle led the Hoyas with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Faith Woodard nearly recorded a double-double with nine points and a game-high 14 boards.

The Bulldogs are now down to their final three games of the regular season. All three contests will be played at Hinkle Fieldhouse, starting with a 1 p.m. tip vs. Xavier on Sunday, Feb. 22.
