Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs improved to 8-14 on the year after a 4-2 victory against Indiana Tech on Sunday afternoon. The win capped off a 4-0 week for Butler as the team inches closer to the start of the conference season.
Butler was able to tie the game at 2-2 with a two-run third inning, an effort that helped the Bulldogs grab a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth. The final outcome would read 4-2 as the Bulldogs added an insurance run in the seventh.
Nick Morton earned the win on the hill for Butler and Peter Nyzynk entered the game in the ninth to pick up the save. Morton tossed six full innings of action limiting the Warriors to just two runs off eight hits. Only one of the runs scored against Morton was earned as the junior added five strikeouts to his team-high total.
Kyle Allen came in to take care of the seventh and eighth innings for Butler. Allen struck out one and only allowed one hit over two frames. He was removed from the game in the ninth which allowed Nyznyk to earn his first save of the season.
Austin Miller, Ryan Wojciechowski and Quincy Quintero all came up with an RBI in the win over Indiana Tech. Miller led all Bulldogs with a 2-for-2 effort from the plate with a run scored.
Indiana Tech's top performer was centerfielder Dezmon Nunn. The lead-off man scored two runs on a 2-for-5 day from the plate. He stole two bases to advance on the base paths which allowed Romer Portes to come up with two RBIs.
Nunn didn't waste any time getting into the action as he took the very first pitch of the day into centerfield for a single. The speedster then took off for second and ended up on third after advancing on a throwing error. Nunn scored the first run of the game off a sacrifice fly with Portes at-bat to take a quick 1-0 lead.
Portes and Nunn would extend the Warrior lead early in the game in a similar fashion. Nunn led off the inning with a bunt single and broke for second base to pick up his second stolen base of the game. Morton got Tyler Denniston to line out for the first out of the inning, but Portes doubled down the line to send Nunn home.
The Bulldogs were able to knot the score in the bottom half of the third as a Wojciechowski sac fly allowed Miller to score the first BU run of the game. Quintero followed in the order to deliver a hard hit ball to second base that allowed Small to tie the game.
Butler would break the tie with a sac fly in the bottom of the fourth. Miller sent a deep fly ball to centerfield that allowed Garrett Christman to tag up and score and the insurance run in the bottom of seven would get us to our final score of 4-2.
The Bulldogs will return to action with a single game at IPFW on Wednesday, March 25. The weekend slate will feature two games at Purdue followed by a single game at Bulldog Park on Sunday.
