SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Butler Bulldogs posted an impressive 3-1 win at Seton Hall on Sunday to earn the series win 2-1. Nick Morton picked up the win on the mound while Danny Pobereyko came up with the save. With the win, Butler improves to 2-4 in the BIG EAST.

Butler scored two of their three runs in the top of the third inning. Austin Miller led-off with a single through the left side of the infield and a sac bunt from Nick Bartolone would advance the runner. BU would quickly put runners on the corners after a single from Chris Maranto and a stolen base from Maranto would put two runners into scoring position with Tyler Houston at the dish.

Houston did his part in the third by delivering a single through the left side to score Miller. A double steal led to the second run of the inning with Houston breaking to second while Maranto stole home.

Seton Hall was able to avoid trouble later in the inning by recording back-to-back outs with the bases loaded. The second out of the inning was a strikeout, followed by a force out at second to get out of the jam.

The bottom of the third inning featured Seton Hall's lone run of the ballgame as DJ Ruhlman singled through the left side to score Ryan Ramiz. The inning came to an abrupt ending after a 4-6-3 ground double play to keep the BU lead at 2-1.

Solid pitching from each team would keep the score at 2-1 until the top of the ninth inning. Butler was able to receive an insurance run off a sac fly from Chris Marras. Maranto scored his second run of the game on the putout.

Maranto, Houston and Marras all ended the game with two hits for the Bulldogs, but the trio of Nick Morton, Kyle Allen and Danny Pobereyko really told the story of Sunday afternoon.

Butler shutdown the Pirate offense by using three different arms in the getaway game. Morton only allowed one earned run in his six innings of work while allowing five hits. He struck out three, but only walked one as he exited the game with the one run lead.

Kyle Allen was nearly perfect for BU in relief of Morton as he allowed just one hit during his frame and Head Coach Steve Farley relied on Pobereyko to get the final six outs which allowed Butler to hold on for the win.

Pobereyko allowed two hits in the bottom of the eighth, but each base knock came with two outs. With runners on first and second, Pobereyko got Alex Falconi to pop up to the catcher to end the inning.

The ninth inning got off to a shaky start with Pobereyko walking the leadoff man. The Pirates added another baserunner after a BU error, but Pobereyko kept his composure and received his first out of the inning off a sac bunt that moved the runners to second and third.

One of the biggest plays of the game was an impressive backwards K against Joe Poduslenko for out two and the game would end during the next at-bat with Ruhlman popping up in foul territory to Christman.

Butler will look to extend their winning streak with a midweek game at home vs. Northern Kentucky on April 21. The weekend will bring BU back to conference action with a three-game home series vs. Creighton.
