Butler Falls at Georgetown

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Georgetown Hoyas evened the weekend series with a 12-5 win over Butler on Saturday night. The Bulldogs recorded 15 hits, but the Hoyas countered with 22 to take the victory.

Georgetown recorded six extra base hits including two home runs to take game two. The Hoyas scored two in the first, four in the second and three more in the seventh to take control of the action. Butler came away with three of their five runs in the fourth.

Nick Collins and Beau Hall homered for the Hoyas. The first round tripper of the evening came in the bottom of the third with Hall sending a solo shot over the wall in leftfield. Butler tried to come back with three runs off six hits in the fourth. Quincy Quintero doubled to right center after back-to-back hits to lead off the inning. The RBI double scored Chris Marras, but Garrett Christman was gunned down at home off an 8-6-5-2 putout.

The fourth inning was action packed as Georgetown added two more runs to their final total. AC Carter had an RBI single to centerfield and Charlie Dillon increased the lead with a bunt single.

The Bulldogs put one more on the scoreboard with a two-out sacrifice fly in the sixth, but a two-run bomb in the bottom of the seventh by Collins put the game out of reach.

Nyznyk was touched up for the first time this season in conference play. The lefty only went 1.2 innings before giving up six earned runs. Luke Johnson and Bobby Napoleon came in for relief with Napoleon going a full 3.2. The final Bulldog to take the bump was Tyler Rathjen who collected the final four outs of the game.

Matt Smith got the win for Georgetown and Tim Davis got the save for putting in three innings. The middle of the Hoya order was clutch with five players recording an RBI. Quintero was the BU RBI leader (2) while Austin Miller, Drew Small, and Michael Fries all added one.

The third and final game of the series will be a huge matchup on Sunday with Butler and Georgetown each owning a 6-8 record in BIG EAST play.
