Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – Villanova avoided the weekend sweep with an 11-2 win over Butler on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats scored a pair of runs in the second and exploded for three runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings to earn their 19th win of the season.
Josh Harris tossed the first six innings of the ballgame to earn the win while Kagan Richardson came in for the final three innings of action. Harris limited Butler to six hits which generated two earned runs. He walked two and struck out three.
Richardson was even more impressive on the mound for Nova by limiting the Bulldogs to just one hit over his three frames. He didn't issue a walk and was able to strike out two.
Butler put six different players on the bump in attempt to slow down the high powered offense. Nick Morton took the loss after exiting in the fourth. Luke Johnson, Connor Mitchell, Bobby Napoleon, Kyle Allen and Danny Pobereyko also saw time on the hill.
Chris Marras led BU offensively with a 2-for-3 day from the plate. Will Amador got the start behind the plate on Senior Day which moved Marras to the DH role. Marras made great contact all afternoon as his double to left center in the third helped BU score their first run of the game.
Senior Michael Fries was the other 'Dawg to pick up an RBI as his groundout to short allowed Tyler Houston to score.
In the end the Wildcats were just too much to overcome as their balanced attack put up 11 runs on 13 hits. Max Beerman, Zander Retamar and Emmanuel Morris all ended the day with a team-high two RBIs.
The three-game series against the Wildcats served as the final weekend home game of the season for Butler. The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday when they host the Dayton Flyers at 3 p.m.
