INDIANAPOLIS -- The Butler women's tennis team defeated Indiana Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon 5-2. The Bulldogs dropped the doubles point in the fall scrimmage before winning five of the six singles matches to take down the Wildcats.
Kylie Haviland and Carla O'Byrne won the only doubles match for the Bulldogs at No. 3. The duo defeated Kelsey Vessels and Ellen Hornoff, 6-4. Haviland built momentum off that win, with another victory at No. 1 singles. The junior dropped the first set 4-6, before taking the last two sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Bailey Padgett earned a victory at No. 2, with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Lucia Solis and Grace Hyde took on Alex Mella at No. 4 singles in the most exciting match of the day for the Bulldogs. Hyde battled for a match win, taking the victory over Mella 7-5, 7-6 (9).
Rachel Sutton and Jocelyn Koester sealed the deal at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Both Sutton and Koester dominated their matches to help the Bulldogs take home the victory. Sutton won her match 6-2, 6-0, while Koester defeated Marissa Klein 6-1, 6-0.
The day did not end there as four Bulldogs competed in exhibition matchups. Jordan Minnick teamed up with Sutton to pick up a victory in doubles competition 6-2.
Angela Avgerinos and Callie Schmit saw their first action of the day as a doubles team, picking up a 7-6 (5) win. Kailey Eaton joined Minnick, Schmit, and Avgerinos, who all picked up singles victories for Butler.
The Bulldogs will get some time off, before returning to action October 14th at the ITA Regionals hosted by Purdue.
