– The Butler men's tennis team participated in the 2015 Purdue Fall Invitational this past weekend at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The event featured thee flights on the doubles side, to go along with six flights on the singles side.

The tournament field consisted of 16 teams in addition to the Boilermakers. Participating teams included: Butler, Dayton, Louisville, Tennessee, Southern Illinois, Marquette, Eastern Kentucky, Ball State, Lewis, Wright State, Tennessee Tech, IUPUI, U Indy, Toledo and Chicago State.

Butler found some success in the Flight A and Flight B doubles bracket. Mason Dragos and Ari Gerstein won their first match in Flight A, before dropping their second match. Adrian Mag and Spencer Lag rattled off two victories in Flight B, before falling in the quarterfinals.

Dragos and Gerstein defeated Alfonzo and Nicolas of Tennessee Tech 8-3, before dropping an 8-6 decision to Del Pino and Drechsler of U Indy.

Mag and Lang recorded a lopsided 8-2 victory over Newis and Nalley of IUPUI, and would go on to win their second match of the day over Niculescu and Martinez of Chicago State 8-6. The duo's day would end after dropping their quarterfinal match to Pimentel and Pozo of Southern Illinois 8-3.

In Flight C of the doubles bracket, Butler's Temilope Adelakun and Alex Woldmoe dropped their first match of the day, sending them to the back-draw. In their third, and final match of the tournament, Adelakun and Woldmoe pulled out an 8-6 victory over Helm and N. Guzina of Ball State.

In singles action, Dragos and Gerstein had the most success for the Bulldogs, as they both won two matches their respective Flights. Dragos moved through the first two rounds of Flight D with comfortable wins over Patwardhan from Eastern Kentucky 6-1, 6-4, and a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Kyle from SIU.

The road through flight C was much different for Gerstein. The freshman battled his way through the first two rounds, as he dropped the first set in both matches. Gerstein defeated Alfonzo 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-4, and then moved on to pull out a 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-2 victory over Marko from Ball State.

Both Gerstein and Dragos would drop their third match of the day. Dragos fell in the quarterfinals to Nicolas in a hard fought battle 6-4, 7-6 (3). Gerstein had a tough match, falling to the eventual champion of Flight C, Anzalone of Toledo, 6-1, 6-3.

Mikheil Khmiadashvili saw his first action of the day for the Bulldogs in Flight A. The junior won his first match against Berry of Dayton 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Khmiadashvili's would drop his second match 7-6 (4), 6-3 to Lancaster of Louisville.

Flight B featured Lang representing the Bulldogs. Lang suffered the same fate as Khmiadashvili, as he won his first match of the day, before falling in the second round. Land defeated Mueller of Eastern Kentucky in the first round.

The Bulldogs will have some time off before traveling to Knoxville, Tennessee, to compete in the ITA Regionals hosted by Tennessee.
