INDIANAPOLIS -- The Butler Women's Tennis team defeated Marian over Labor Day weekend. The fall scrimmage was the first for the Bulldogs, as they were able to come away with the victory.
Butler would receive the doubles point with wins a No. 1 and No. 2. Kylie Haviland and Jocelyn Koester picked up the victory at No. 1 by retiring Audrey Rang and Elix Betscher 6-2.
The 6-3 victory for Grace Hyde and Michelle Mcferran over Mana Sunga and Alex Griehling, would secure the point for the Bulldogs. Marian would receive a win at No. 3 with a 6-4 victory over Rachel Sutton and Carla O'Byrne.
The success continued for Butler, as they would receive the singles point as well. Butler came out on top at No. 1 and No. 2, as Haviland and Sutton each received the victory. Haviland defeated Rand 6-0, 6-3, while Sutton defeated Grace Weathery 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
O'Bryne and Mcferran also received wins at No. 4 and No. 5. Mcferran defeated Hannah Elliott 7-5, 6-3, while O'Bryne rallied for a victory over Betscher 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Other Bulldogs in action included Jocelyn Koester, Jordan Minnick and Angela Avgerinos. All three received victories in their exhibition matches against Marian. The final score favored Butler 6-1 in their first action this fall.
