Vincent Mitchell has been selected by the Chicago Fire with the first pick of the fourth round (#62 overall) in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. Mitchell is the third Butler player drafted in the past two years.
"The Butler Soccer Family is absolutely thrilled that Vinny has been drafted by the Chicago Fire," said Butler coach
Paul Snape. "He has overcome many difficult obstacles to get where he is today, but yet his passion for the game remains incredibly strong. We've seen a tremendous amount of growth, maturity and leadership from Vinny these past several years, and we believe that he can make a significant impact at the next level.
"We thank him for everything he has done our program in the BIG EAST. We will all be cheering for him to achieve one of his life dreams...to become a professional soccer player!"
Mitchell earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors after leading the Bulldogs in scoring during the 2015 regular season. Mitchell was second in the BIG EAST at 1.75 points per game. His 26 points came on 11 goals and four assists. Four of his goals were game-winners. Mitchell posted multi-goal matches on three occasions this season, including twice in BIG EAST play.
The Fire also drafted Brandon Vincent (Stanford) with the #4 overall pick, Jonathan Campbell (North Carolina) with the #12 overall pick and Alex Morrell (North Florida) with the #22 selection.
Butler had two players selected in the most recent MLS SuperDraft with Zach Steinberger going to the Houston Dynamo with the eighth overall pick and Brandon Fricke being selected by the Colorado Rapids in the fourth round.
