@ButlerVB Comeback Falls Short at Marquette

Box Score
MILWAUKEE – The Bulldogs erased a 2-0 deficit on Wednesday night at Marquette to push the Golden Eagles to a fifth set. Butler was unable to come all the way back however as Marquette came up with a 15-11 win to claim their 16th win of the season. With the loss, BU moves their overall record to 13-10.

Four different Bulldogs reached a double figure kill total at Marquette. Anna Logan led the way with 20 while Brooke Gregory and Whitney Beck each added 10. The second highest kill total belonged to Bri Lilly. The middle blocker finished the contest with 12 kills and three blocks.

Logan was sensational in the five set thriller at Marquette. The sophomore outside hitter posted a team-high 24 digs to go along with her 20 -kill performance. She hit .226 and added three blocks to post 21.5 total points.

Logan was one of three players to post a double-double for BU. Makayla Ferguson ended the game with 48 assists and 15 digs while Beck added 12 digs to go along with her 10 kills. Those players along with Taylor Takeda highlighted Butler's defensive effort. Takeda was all over the court to record her 21 digs.

On the other side of the net, Taylor Louis posted 20 kills and eight digs for the Golden Eagles. No Marquette players reached a double-double, but Lauren Houg led all players with a match-high 30 digs.

The first set went to the home team as Marquette went on a 7-2 scoring run to open up a 16-10 advantage. That cushion would hold throughout the remainder of the action to give the Golden Eagles the 25-17 win.

Set two was very similar to set one in that a Marquette run near the midway point would separate the two teams. BU would tie the contest at 14-14 with a service ace, but momentum would swing the opposite direction with Marquette scoring five-straight points after the serve. The scoring run was too much to overcome which resulted in Marquette going up 2-0 in the match.

The Bulldogs kept fighting after intermission which resulted in a 25-20 win in set three. BU used a 9-3 scoring run to open up a 21-15 advantage. The would race to the finish line to stay alive with a 25-20 win.

The 'Dawgs remained in attack mode in set four by holding off the Golden Eagles 25-22. The most competitive set of the evening featured the two teams coming together at 21-21. Attack errors from Marquette pushed BU to set point and Logan would connect on a kill off an assist from Takeda to pull Butler even at 2-2.

The fifth set belonged to Marquette in the opening stages, but the Bulldogs would fight back to get within one point at 10-9. Louis and the Golden Eagles wouldn't allow the comeback however as Marquette stepped up to finish the game on a 5-2 scoring run.

The Bulldogs will return to action this weekend by hosting Villanova and Georgetown. Each match will begin at 6 PM.
