@ButlerUFootball Travels to Davidson for Saturday PFL Contest

Full Notes (PDF)

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Butler returns to the road after two weeks at the Butler Bowl, traveling to Davidson for a Pioneer Football League match-up. Kick-off is set for Noon on Saturday (Oct. 15). Both teams enter the contest with matching marks of 2-4 overall and 0-3 in Pioneer Football League thus far in 2016.

HOW TO WATCH: Davidson will stream Saturday's game with fans enjoying several options to follow along. The audio stream is free, while the video stream is a $5.99 charge. Live stats will also be offered. All coverage can be found on DavidsonWildcats.com.

LAST TIME OUT: Ten fourth-quarter points gave Marist a 30-21 come-from-behind victory over Butler on Homecoming Weekend in Indianapolis. Marist's Mike White registered 393 yards on the afternoon. He had three touchdowns through the air.

CAREER DAY: The Bulldogs' Will Marty threw for a career-high 314 yards in his second career start. Marty connected on 23 of 42 attempts for the Bulldogs, spreading throws across five receivers. He had two touchdown passes on the afternoon.

KEEPING THE PACE: Seven of those Will Marty completions went to sophomore Pace Temple. Those seven catches – all in the first half – accounted for 110 yards and a touchdown. Temple entered the contest leading the PFL in receiving yards and actually increased his lead with the performance. Temple's yardage was just off his career-high 128 yards receiving at Campbell Sept. 24.

ON A NATIONAL STAGE: In addition to leading the PFL in receiving yards, Pace Temple is also seventh in the FCS Division with his 606 receiving yards.

RIGHT BACK AT YOU: Cornerback Mike Cerone has blocked two kicks this season. Only two players have blocked more in the FCS division. Cerone also leads the Bulldogs with five pass break-ups, while his 28 tackles are fifth on the team so far this season.

AGAINST THE WILDCATS: Butler has won the last five match-ups with Davidson. Overall, the teams have split 10 contests. Butler coach Jeff Voris is 5-2 against Davidson.

PRESSURE UP THE MIDDLE: Senior captain Jordan Ransone had two sacks Saturday against Marist, providing a push up the middle that got to the Red Foxes' quarterback. On the afternoon, the defensive tackle had seven stops, including three tackles for loss. His 5.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks lead the Bulldogs this season.

STOP YOU IN YOUR TRACKS: The Bulldogs' top four tacklers were at it again Saturday against Marist. Ethan Brunhofer had 12 tackles, while seniors David Starkey and Sean Horan each had 10 stops. The three linebackers are the top three tacklers for the Bulldogs this season. Zach LaRoche had nine tackles from the safety position and is currently fourth on the team in stops on the season.

TAKE IT AND RUN: Will Marty's longest completion Saturday – and of his career – went to an unlikely source in 250-pound tight end Cord Collier. They connected up the seam and Collier had daylight to run for 60 yards before being tackled at the one. It was the highlight of a career day for Collier that included a personal-best 88 yards. He had a touchdown reception as well, the second straight game that he and Marty have connected for a score.

THIS TIME LAST YEAR: Five Bulldogs found the endzone to complement a stellar defensive effort as Butler overmatched Davidson, 38-7, in 2015 at the Butler Bowl. Quarterback Matt Shiltz led the Bulldogs attack, completing 22 of 33 attempts for 218 yards passing. He connected with running back Rico Watson on a 30-yard touchdown strike to start the scoring halfway through the first quarter. From there, the remaining scores all came on the ground as John Hall, Anthony Scaccia and Duvante Lane scored their first career touchdowns to go along with a Shiltz one-yard quarterback keeper.

NOT ON THE GROUND: Butler's defense limited Marist's running attack to only 55 yards on 33 attempts Saturday. The 55 yards tied Franklin's performance on Sept. 10 for a season-low by a Butler opponent. On the season, Butler is tied for the PFL lead in fewest rushing yards allowed (120.5 yards per game).

FLIPPING THE FIELD: Senior Ian Dobek is third in the PFL, averaging 40.1 yards per punt. Against Marist, he also placed four of his five punts inside the 20. The Bulldogs are netting 39.4 yards per punt thanks to tremendous coverage that has allowed a total of nine return yards this season on 30 total punts. That mark is eighth-best in FCS.

QUICK HITS: Butler has only allowed three sacks on the season…kicker Drew Bevelhimer and linebacker Mason Brunner are the two true freshmen to see action so far this season for the Bulldogs…Bevelhimer is 6-of-8 on field goal attempts this season…running back Duvante Lane is third in the PFL with seven rushing touchdowns. Lane had his first 100-yard game as a Bulldog in the home opener Sept. 10 against Franklin.
