CINCINNATI- The Bulldogs lost a five-set conference match to the Xavier Musketeers on Thursday night (23-25, 26-24, 22-25, 25-23, 13-15). The loss moves Butler's overall record to 16-12 and 5-7 in the BIG EAST Conference.

Whitney Beck was phenomenal for the 'Dawgs. Beck had a double double with 18 kills and 20 digs.
Anna Logan was also strong for the BU offense, adding a match-high 21 kills.

The defense for the Bulldogs was led by
Taylor Takeda and Bri Lilly. Takeda accounted for a team-high 26 digs, while Lilly had seven total blocks.

Butler dropped a tough first set to the Musketeers 23-25. The Bulldogs fought back from a 10-18 deficit with the help of
Maddie Freiwald. Freiwald had three straight serves to pull the 'Dawgs back to only down 23-24.
Brooke Gregory led the BU offense on the set, notching four kills.

The Bulldogs battled back to take the second set 26-24. Five straight serves by Beck brought Butler back to even at 19-19 after falling behind early. Xavier attempted to close the set but a huge block by Beck, Gregory and Lilly tied things up again at 24. A kill by Beck would seal the set for the 'Dawgs, evening the match up 1-1.

Xavier took the third set over BU 25-22. Logan and Beck were both strong for the BU offense. Logan had a set-high six kills with Beck following right behind with four of her own.

The Bulldogs forced a fifth set with a 25-23 defeat over the Musketeers in the fourth. Logan got Butler ahead early with four straight serves to gain a 12-7 lead. The 'Dawgs were led by another strong set by Beck, finishing with five kills and six digs.

The 'Dawgs fell in the final set of the match 13-15. Logan led BU's offensive attack in the last set with five kills. Lilly contributed on the defensive side with a set-high two blocks.

Butler will continue conference play against the Blue Jays of Creighton on November 4th. The conference matchup will get started at 7PM in Omaha, Neb.
