Drake got out to a 14-0 lead with a pair of touchdown passes by Grant Kraemer in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Butler responded with a 1-yard touchdown run by Weaver to pull within 14-7 with 3:53 remaining in the first half.

The home team would score the first two touchdowns of the third quarter to take a 28-7 lead before Lane scored from one-yard out with 2:34 remaining in the quarter. That would be the final after a scoreless fourth quarter. Kraemer finished with three touchdown passes and 246 yards through the air.
