Kamar Baldwin's game-winner with 0.4 seconds lifted Butler to a 70-68 Gavitt Tipoff Games win over Northwestern Wednesday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Baldwin came off a screen and nailed a 17-footer as the Bulldogs improve to 2-0 on the young season. Northwestern stands at 2-1.

Baldwin's heroics broke the game's 17
th tie. The game featured 16 lead changes. Northwestern and Butler traded free throws to tie the game at 68 with 53 seconds remaining. Baldwin picked up a steal with 30 seconds to play and dribbled into the frontcourt before coach
Chris Holtmann called for a timeout with 13 seconds on the clock. The Bulldogs sent an on-ball screen toward Baldwin, who got switched onto a Northwestern post defender and hit the stepback jumper for the win.

"To come away with a win when we weren't our best at times tonight is a really good result for us," said Holtmann. "I'm proud of our guys for staying with it. Our guys were just able to make plays down the stretch on both ends of the court. That's what got us this win against a very talented, well-coached, veteran team."

Kelan Martin led Butler with 22 points. After scoring seven points in the first half, he had eight points in the first 156 seconds of the second half. He made all six of his free throws, with all the attempts coming in the second half.

Butler's largest lead was just five points at 51-46 with 11:46 to play. Shortly thereafter, Northwestern would go on a 10-0 run to take a 60-54 advantage with 5:43 remaining. On the next possession,
Andrew Chrabascz stepped up and hit a key three-pointer to start the Butler rally.

Butler shot only 38 percent from the field, including 7-of-23 from behind the arc. Northwestern countered with a 48-percent clip.

The Bulldogs went 17-of-22 from the free throw line and committed only eight turnovers. Butler forced Northwestern into 16 turnovers, and turned those into 18 points, including the final points of the contest.

Baldwin finished with 11 points, three assists and three steals in 28 minutes of action. Chrabascz had 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds.
Tyler Wideman added nine points.

Vic Law led four Wildcats in double figures with 17 points. He went 5-of-6 from three-point range.

Butler has a quick turnaround, hosting Bucknell Saturday at 1 p.m. The game is the first match-up of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. That will be followed by a Monday game against Norfolk State at Hinkle Fieldhouse before the Bulldogs travel West for Thanksgiving play in the event.
