INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs fell to the Golden Eagles of Marquette on Friday evening 25-22, 20-25, 20-25, 22-25. The conference loss moves Butler's overall record to 19-14 and 8-9 in the BIG EAST.
Anna Logan led the way for the BU offense. The sophomore had a double-double with a team-high 18 kills and 14 digs.
Jessica Klingensmith also got to double-digits in kills with 11.
Makayla Ferguson accounted for a double-double with 41 assists and 10 digs.
Taylor Takeda was strong on the defensive end for the 'Dawgs. Takeda finished the four sets with a match-high 20 digs. Logan was also active on defense, registering a team-leading three blocks.
The loss eliminates the Bulldogs from a chance at competing in the BIG EAST Tournament next weekend.
The first set went in favor of Butler, 25-22. Ferguson broke the set wide open for the 'Dawgs with four-straight serves to get her squad ahead 20-14. Logan paced the BU offense in the first with five kills and two service aces. Ferguson also added 11 of her 41 assists during the set.
The second saw a resurgent Marquette squad take down the Bulldogs, 20-25.
Brooke Gregory led the Butler attack on the set, tying a set-high with four kills. Klingensmith and Logan were active at the net with two kills and two blocks apiece.
The Golden Eagles took down the 'Dawgs in the third, 20-25. Logan was once again on the forefront of the BU attack with a set-high six kills. Ferguson was productive in the third with 12 assists, two kills and two digs.
Marquette ended the match in the fourth with a 25-22 victory. Logan was everywhere during the set, accounting for five kills, a set-leading six digs and a block. Klingensmith and
Bri Lilly both notched three kills each and Ferguson added 11 assists for the Bulldogs.
Butler will return to action this Sunday for the final match of the 2016 season. The Blue Demons of DePaul will be heading to historic Hinkle Fieldhouse to take on the 'Dawgs at 1PM.
