Kethan Savage, who is sitting out the 2015-16 season after transferring from George Washington, underwent successful surgery Monday (Feb. 29) to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. He is expected to make a full recovery in advance of the 2016-17 season.
"Kethan has been a key part of this season's team by pushing our guys in every practice," said coach
Chris Holtmann. "This procedure allows this issue to be fully addressed as Kethan prepares for the 2016-17 season. We expect him to play a large role on our team next season."
Savage, a 6-3 guard from Fairfax, Va., averaged 11.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 31 games at George Washington as a junior. He finished second on the team in scoring, while helping the Colonials to a 22-13 season and a berth in the NIT. Savage averaged 12.7 points in 19 games as a sophomore, before being sidelined by injury. In three seasons at George Washington, the talented backcourt player saw action in 83 games, including 58 as a starter.
After sitting out the 2015-16 season as a transfer, Savage will have one season of eligibility remaining. He joins a four-player recruiting class ranked as high as 20th nationally by certain recruiting services on National Signing Day as additions to the Butler roster for the 2016-17 campaign.
Butler, currently 19-9 and 8-8 in BIG EAST play, returns to action with a pair of home games to close the regular season. Seton Hall visits Wednesday night for an 8:30 p.m. contest. The game will air on FS1 and tickets are still available. Marquette comes to Hinkle Fieldhouse for a Saturday contest, which will also serve as "Senior Day" for Kellen Dunham, Austin Etherington, Jordan Gathers, and Roosevelt Jones.
