BOCA RATON, Fla. – Butler's spring break trip continued with a couple of matches against tough competition in Florida Atlantic and Barry.
The first match went down as a 6-0 win for Florida Atlantic. Jordan Minnick and Michelle McFerran paired up to represent Butler at No. 3 doubles. They lost 6-3 to Jen Leib and Jazz Whittaker. The point would then go to the Owls with Lyndsey Boos and Ana Gutierrez holding off Bailey Padgett and Konstantina Adam 7-6 (9-7).
Singles action at Patch Reef Park also favored the home team as the Owls swept matches 2-6. Kailey Eaton, Rachel Sutton, and McFerran were the top performers for BU, pushing their opponent to a third set, and or a tiebreaker. Eaton went down 6-2, 6-7 (3-7) 10-8 at No. 3 and despite getting off on the right foot, Sutton lost 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. McFerran was in the lineup at No. 5. She lost to Marisa Ruiz 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
From Boca Raton to Miami Shores, the Bulldogs would continue their trip with a match against Barry at the Buccaneer Tennis Center. Doubles action went to Barry with the team recording 8-5, 8-0 and 8-4 victories.
A majority of the single matches went down unfinished with Barry picking up quick wins at No. 2 ad No. 4 singles to clinch the victory. Sonja Larsen defeated Adami 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 an Emma Onila knocked off Sutton 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
