INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's tennis team lost three matches over the weekend, including the 2016 conference opener at Marquette. Action started with a 7-0 home loss vs. Toledo on Friday and continued with a 6-1 setback at UIC on Saturday. Sunday's event at Marquette went down as a 7-0 win for the Golden Eagles.
Butler's lone win came at No. 4 singles action at UIC on Saturday. Rachel Sutton defeated Melika LeBlanc 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Competition was tight between BU and UIC as the top four single matches all went to a third set. Bailey Padgett was knocked off at No. 1 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, Konstantina Adami was defeated at No. 2 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 and Kailey Eaton lost at No. 3 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The day prior Toledo swept Butler 7-0 at the BU outdoor courts. Michelle McFerran and Jordan Minnick were the top performers on the day taking close setbacks at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
The first BIG EAST match of the season came at Marquette on Sunday with BU taking another 7-0 loss. The Golden Eagles won each singles match in straight-sets.
The team will return to action with an away match at Dayton on April 1.
