@ButlerWTennis Drops a Pair in Miami

MIAMI – The Bulldogs opened their spring break trip in Miami this year with matches against Florida International and Bethune-Cookman. The nationally-ranked Panthers recorded a 7-0 victory, while Bethune-Cookman edged BU 4-2.

#57 FIU made quick work of Butler on Tuesday by sweeping each of the double matches that came to a close 6-0. Singles competition also favored the home team as all six matches went down in straight-sets.

The second match of the day was much more competitive, yet Butler was unable to come out on top. Bethune-Cookman won 7-5 at both No. 2 and 3 doubles to take the early point.

The turning point in the match came at No. 1 and 2 singles where BCU won a pair of tiebreakers to record the win. Mina Matsuba took down Bailey Padgett at No. 1 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) meanwhile Matea Roki defeated Konstantina Adami at No. 2 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4).

Butler's victories came at No. 3 and 4 singles. Kailey Eaton defeated Ancia Ifill 6-3, 6-4 and Rachel Sutton came out on top against Hilary Hanton 6-1, 6-2.

Also competing for Butler at No. 6 singles was Jordan Minnick who took a 6-2, 6-2 setback to Alejandra Vidal. Michelle McFarran also took the court for BU on Tuesday, but her match ended unfinished.
