Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – Miami's Ross Haffey went 3-for-5 from the dish with two doubles and a homerun to lift Miami over Butler on Wednesday afternoon 10-3. The Bulldogs came up with all three of their runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the early Redhawk lead would be too much to overcome.
Haffey ended the day with three RBIs and a run scored as the first baseman highlighted a team that posted nine overall hits. Joining Haffey with a homer today was Chad Sedio who also sent the ball over the wall in right field.
Michael Hartnagel would record a multi-hit performance against Miami with a 2-for-5 day that included an RBI. Other Bulldogs to come up with a run batted in included Dan Busch and Drew Small.
Haffey separated the two teams in the first inning with his two-run bomb to right field. That 2-0 cushion would hold steady until the fifth when Sedio homered.
The Redhawks took full control of the game by scoring six runs over the next three innings to end the day with 10. Butler would avoid the shutout by pushing three runs across in the ninth. Cole Malloy pinch hit to lead off the frame and collected a double down the line. He advanced to third on a Garrett Christman single and scored off a Dan Busch RBI.
A fielder's choice would allow the next run to score as Christman found home plate during a Drew Small at-bat. Rounding out the scoring would be Hartnagel with an RBI single to right that counted as his second hit of the day.
Hartnagel and Tyler Houston were the only two players to record hits early in the contest as Bailey Martin shined during his start. The right-hander limited BU to just those two hits over seven frames before being replaced by Tyler Harris. Harris was solid in his lone inning of work leaving all the earned runs for Nick Scheller who tossed the ninth.
BU once again pitched by committee by sending six arms to the mound. Brock Balderson got the start and on down the line Danny Pobereyko would throw a perfect ninth.
Butler also made some changes to the starting lineup with Dan Busch getting the start at second, Chip Bouchard getting the nod at first base, Sam Russo earning the start at catcher and Alex Horowitz getting involved as the team's designated hitter.
The Bulldogs will take a day off before continuing on their home stand with a three-game series against the Georgetown Hoyas. The first game will be played Friday at 3 PM.
