Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler baseball team defeated Georgetown on Friday afternoon by the final score of 3-2. Nine innings wouldn't be enough for these conference rivals as the two clubs battled through 13 innings to determine a winner. In the end, Butler would find a way to win the game with a walk-off single to the right centerfield gap off the bat of Chris Marras.
The 13th inning started to take shape when Drew Small reached first base with a one-out walk. The speedy Small would then take off for second base on a pitch that would hit Tyler Houston and send him down to first base.
The game would really tighten up during the Jordan Lucio at-bat. Lucio would go down swinging to record the second out of the game, but both Small and Houston took off on the strikeout pitch to steal bases. Then moments later with the game on the line, Marras would drive a pitch to right center to seal the win for BU.
Marras ended the game 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. He was huge early in the game as well by delivering his first home run of the season. Additional Bulldog runs were scored Gehrig Parker and Small who notched the game-winner.
Each team's pitching staff was on point today only allowing seven hits each way. Butler was able to pick up the win by only using two arms in Bobby Napoleon and Danny Pobereyko. Napoleon once again had a nice weekend outing with 6.2 innings to his credit and just one earned run. Pobereyko was fantastic down the stretch to earn his second win of the season. The big right-hander tossed 6.1 relief innings while striking out seven batters.
These two teams will return to the diamond tomorrow for a 1 PM first pitch.
