CINCINNATI -- The Butler women's tennis team dropped two matches this weekend against Xavier and Seton Hall in Cincinnati. Both BIG EAST contests for the Bulldogs did not go their way as Xavier defeated the Bulldogs 4-0 and Seton Hall followed that up with a 4-1 victory over Butler.
In the first match against the Musketeers, the Bulldogs failed to get anything going as they fell in straight sets in No. 3 singles, No. 5 singles, No. 6 singles, as well as the doubles competition as the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles fell 6-1, 6-1.
The Bulldogs then followed that with a match against Seton Hall. Butler again struggled when it came to singles play, dropping every set they played, although Kailey Eaton kept her No. 3 singles match close in the first set, taking Seton Hall's Anicka Fajnorova down to the wire before falling 7-5, but that is the closest Butler got to picking up a set in singles play.
The weekend's lone bright spot came from the doubles competition against Seton Hall. Although they dropped the No. 3 doubles match 6-3, Rachel Sutton and Kailey Eaton took the No. 1 doubles match 6-2 and the team of Jocelyn Koester and Konstantina Adami won at No. 2 doubles 6-4 putting Butler on the scoreboard.
The Bulldogs will next compete in the BIG EAST championship this Thursday at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.
