CAYCE, S.C. – The Butler women's tennis team lost to Villanova in the first round of the 2016 BIG EAST Tournament by the final score of 4-0.
The day got underway with #10 seed Butler battling against #7 seed Villanova in doubles competition. The duo of Tori Smith and Lindsey Evans posted the first win of the day for the Wildcats at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center 6-3 over Rachel Sutton and Kailey Eaton.
Nova would quickly earn the point after the finish at No. 2 doubles where Victoria Martinez and Sydney King defeated Jocelyn Koester and Konstantina Adami 6-4.
Villanova would complete the 4-0 sweep by defeating Butler opponents in straight-sets at No. 3, 4, and 5 singles. Kailey Eaton was defeated by Evans 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, Koester took a 6-4, 6-4 loss at No. 4 to Samantha Schafer and finally, Michelle McFerran would be topped by Paulina Bajet 6-2, 6-4.
Weather and time permitting, Butler will face Providence tomorrow at 4 PM in a consolation match.
