Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler baseball team dropped an 8-2 decision at home to the Seton Hall Pirates on Thursday afternoon. SHU scored at least one run in six of the nine innings to earn the victory.
Butler scored the first run of the game to open up a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but that slim advantage would not last as Seton Hall knotted the score with a run in the second. From there Seton Hall would slowly but surely add to their lead with single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh while pushing two runs across in the fifth and eighth.
Each pitcher went seven full innings on the mound for their respective clubs on Thursday. The win went to Shane McCarthy who limited BU to just five hits in his outing. The Pirates however had better luck against the Butler arms to tally 16 hits against the 'Dawgs. Nick Morton was tagged with 12 of those hits as he took the loss on the mound. The final four hits went against Quentin Miller who threw the final two innings of the game.
All six Butler hits went to a different player with Gehrig Parker and Jordan Lucio picking up RBIs. The top five hitters in the lineup each collected one hit and Connor Dall would also get involved with a double in the nine-hole.
Seton Hall had five players record a multi-hit performance, highlighted by Joe Poduslenko who went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI vs. BU. RBI leaders included Zack Weigel and Mike Alescio who each recorded two.
Seton Hall only recorded one extra base hit against the Bulldogs on Thursday, but their ability to steal bases continuously moved runners into scoring position. SHU stole seven bags on the day with Chris Chiaradio and Weigel each swiping two.
Butler will look to get even in the series with a win tomorrow on Fox College Sports while the Pirates will be playing for a BIG EAST Championship Tournament berth. First pitch for Friday's contest is set for 1 PM.
