Steve Farley will not return as Butler's head baseball coach, Butler Vice President/Director of Athletics Barry Collier announced Wednesday (May 25).
"We want to thank Steve for his hard work and many contributions to Butler over the past 25 years," said Collier. "These decisions are never easy and are made after careful review of all aspects of the program. Ultimately, the expectations that we have for our baseball program have not been met.
"The search to find the next leader for Butler Baseball has begun. We believe that our program has the opportunity to be competitive in the BIG EAST, while providing a quality student-athlete experience."
Farley took over the head coaching job at Butler in 1992. In 25 seasons, Farley posted a record of 588-754-2. Under his guidance, Butler won three regular season championships (1996, 1998, 1999) and two tournament championships (1998, 2000) as a member of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference/Horizon League.
Butler finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 14-40, including 4-14 in BIG EAST play. Butler's last season with an overall winning record was 2003.
