@ButlerVB to Face Eastern Illinois Tuesday Night

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Butler volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday night with an away match at Eastern Illinois. The game will get started at 7 PM.

- Anna Logan and Taylor Takeda were named to the Utah Classic All-Tournament Team
- Logan notched 29 kills for BU in the season opener, just four shy of the school record
- Logan is averaging 5.15 kills per set after three matches, the school record is 4.57
- Takeda took over the libero role and averaged 5.08 digs per set over opening wknd
- As a team, BU recorded 178 kills last weekend, EIU was limited to just 82
- BU used two setters in Utah with Makayla Ferguson and Maddie Freiwald splitting time
- Ferguson and Freiwald combined for 141 assists, the Panthers have 78 total
- Butler leads the all-time series against EIU 12-6
- The Bulldogs went 12-19 overall last year with an 8-10 mark in the BIG EAST

All-Time Series
Butler leads the all-time series against Eastern Illinois 12-6. The last meeting between the two programs was played during the 2012 season. Butler swept EIU 3-0 in the second game of the DePaul Invitational.
 
Logan Leads BIG EAST In Kills
Anna Logan was sensational for Butler last weekend in the Utah Classic. The sophomore recorded a career-high 29 kills in the five-set match against Gonzaga and followed that effort with 22 more kills in the win over Idaho State. In total, Logan recorded 67 kills over opening weekend, 10 more than any other player in the BIG EAST Conference. Her 5.15 kills per set average is also tops in the conference after three games.
 
Takeda Takes Over as Libero
Newcomer Taylor Takeda made an immediate impact on the Butler volleyball team last weekend by recording a team-high 66 digs. She shined in the season opener by notching 30 digs in the five-set match vs. Gonzaga and she returned to the court to post 23 digs the following day vs. Idaho State. Takeda now leads the BIG EAST Conference in total digs (66) and in digs per set (5.08).
 
Setters Split Time in Utah Classic
Butler used two setters in the Utah Classic with Makayla Ferguson and Maddie Freiwald each playing in nine sets. Ferguson got the majority of the playing time in the season opener and responded with a double-double by recording 58 assists and 12 digs. Her 58 assists is the highest total of any player in the BIG EAST Conference after one weekend of action. Freiwald took over the starting job against Idaho State and posted 48 assists, five digs, four kills and three service aces. The duo split time against Utah with Ferguson recording 22 assists and nine digs. Freiwald was in the box score with 13 assists and six digs.

Butler will face three different BIG EAST opponents on the BIG EAST Digital Network this season. The first broadcast will be at Hinkle Fieldhouse when the 'Dawgs host the Providence Friars on Sept. 30. BU will return to the platform on Oct. 14 when they host the Villanova Wildcats. The final match to be aired on BEDN will put Butler up against Xavier on Oct. 27.
 
Hinkle Fieldhouse to Host BIG EAST Championship
The 2016 BIG EAST Championship Tournament will be held at Hinkle Fieldhouse this year with the top four teams in the league standings making up the field. The semi-finals are slated for Nov. 25 with the championship to follow on Nov. 26.
 
Up Next
Tournament action will resume this weekend (9/2-9/3) with BU taking part in the Iowa Invitational. The field includes Oakland, Arizona State, Iowa and Western Illinois. Butler will play two matches each day.
