Butler traveled to Columbus, Ohio for its first road contest of the 2017 season, putting up a strong fight against No. 3 Ohio State Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 24).
The host Buckeyes came away with a 4-0 decision. Ohio State improves to 3-0 on the season, while Butler is now 1-1.
Ohio State took the doubles point with wins on the first and third courts.
The Buckeyes clinched the match with singles wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5. Martin Joyce, ranked No. 53 nationally, defeated
Mason Dragos, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot. Kyle Seeling defeated
Spencer Lang at No. 4, and Hunter Tubert downed
Ari Gerstein on the fifth court. Â
Aviv Ben Shabat and No. 5-ranked Hugo Di Feo were late in the second set when the match was clinched. Lope Adelakun and Alex Kobelt were early in a third set as well.
The Bulldogs return to action Feb. 3 at Valparaiso.
