CHICAGO – The women's soccer match between Butler and DePaul ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw. The game which was originally scheduled for Saturday was moved to Sunday afternoon due to wet weather conditions in the Chicago area.
Emotions ran high at DePaul with the Blue Demons recognizing their senior class at Wish Field before opening kick. The Bulldogs however did not seem distracted as they came up with the first goal of the contest just 2:41 into the match.
Caitlyn DiSarcina scored her team-high sixth goal of the season off an assist from
Kyra Cooke. DiSarcina got the start in the game on connected on her second goal against a BIG EAST opponent.
The 1-0 lead would not last in this match as Butler gave up just their third goal all season to DePaul at the 16:22 mark. Franny Cerny broke away and found the back of the net, unassisted to pull DePaul even at 1-1.
Each side saw multiple scoring opportunities through the reminder of the contest, but the score would never move away from 1-1. DePaul was credited with 20 total shots, eight of which came during the overtime periods. Butler took 10 total shots.
Butler's two goalkeeper system was once again in play at DePaul. Luedtke made one save in the opening 45 minutes of action while
Leonie Doege logged the final 65 minutes of playing time to make six stops. DePaul goalkeeper Lauren Frasca made one save in 110 minutes.
Only three games remain on the 2017 schedule with the final two to be played at the Sellick Bowl. Butler's final road test will come up next at Creighton. The 8 PM kickoff on Oct. 19 will stream live on BEDN.
