INDIANAPOLIS – The top two teams in the BIG EAST conference standings tied 0-0- on Sunday afternoon at the Sellick Bowl. The scoreless draw moves Butler's overall record to 11-1-5. The Georgetown Hoyas post a similar record at 11-3-3.
The two evenly matched teams had solid scoring chances, but neither side was able to pull out three points in the standings. Georgetown's best chance to score came in the opening half when Paula Germino-Watnick sent a ball off the left post.
Butler's best chance at a goal on Sunday came late in the action with
Caitlyn DiSarcina tracking down a long pass with the Hoya keeper out of position. DiSarcina's attempt in the double overtime period was blocked, but the ball would move to Toth who fired wide right to keep the game at 0-0.
Butler ended the match with 10 total shots compared to 14 by Georgetown. DiSarcina,
Halle Stelbasky and
Paige Monaghan all tied for the team lead with two.
Georgetown was much more aggressive in the second half of play and therefore recorded nine of their 14 total shots in that period. Rachel Corboz was in the box score with four shots while Germino-Watnick was second on the squad with three.
The Hoyas took six corner kicks to Butler's three and the Bulldogs ended the match with six total saves compared to four for the visitors.
Hannah Luedtke once again got the start and made one save over the first 45 minutes of action.
Leonie Doege logged the final 65 minutes in goal and made a match-high five saves.
Butler returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 26 when they host Villanova in the 2017 regular season finale. Action will stream live on BEDN with a 7PM kickoff.
