Butler clinched the 2017 BIG EAST regular season title with a 2-1 win at Marquette Saturday night in Milwaukee.
The No. 21-ranked Bulldogs improve to 7-1 in conference play, and the win Saturday night coupled with Georgetown's loss to St. John's secured the regular season title for the Bulldogs. Butler is 11-4-1 overall.
"I'm absolutely delighted," said Butler coach
Paul Snape. "We got two goals up on them, but they started to really attack at that point. Our guys hung in there and were able to get the win. One of our goals was to win the regular season title, and we've done that. But we're not done; we want to continue to build our résumé for the NCAA Tournament."

Joe Moulden scored the game's first goal, which was also the first goal of his Butler career. The score in the 47
th minute was a header off a free kick from
Lewis Suddick. Forty-one seconds later, Suddick fed
Brandon Guhl, who scored from the right side.
That flurry of activity proved to be all the offense Butler needed as the Bulldogs' defense was able to withstand 21 shots by the host Golden Eagles.
Eric Dick made nine saves, including several of the acrobatic variety, to preserve the win. Marquette's only goal came in the 72
nd minute off a left-footed blast from Connor Alba, just outside the box.
Guhl entered the night tied for the BIG EAST lead in goals and with the solo lead in points. He added his tenth goal to those numbers. Suddick now has seven assists on the season.
Alba's tally for Marquette ended Butler's streak of holding opponents without a goal at 480:58 of game action, dating back to the Oct. 10 loss to SIUE. Butler is unbeaten in its last five matches.
Marquette, which had a 21-10 advantage in shots and 13-6 edge in corner kicks, falls to 3-10-2. Noah Heim had three saves for the Golden Eagles.
Isaac Galliford led Butler with four shots.
The Bulldogs will end the regular season Wednesday night, hosting Xavier at the Sellick Bowl for a 7 p.m. kick that will air on the BIG EAST Digital Network. Butler will host a BIG EAST Tournament semifinal on Nov. 8.
