@ButlerMBB Improves to 2-0 with 85-75 Win Over Princeton

Box Score
Butler posted an impressive 85-75 win over reigning Ivy League champion Princeton Sunday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Senior Kelan Martin led the Bulldogs with 20 points and a career-high 14 rebounds as Butler moves to 2-0 on the young season.

Kamar Baldwin and Aaron Thompson each had 15 points for Butler. Sixteen of Martin's points and 13 of Baldwin's came in the second half.

Thompson made five of his six field goal attempts to go along with four rebounds and two assists. His first-half offense (10 points on 4-of-4 shooting) kept the Bulldogs in front as Baldwin, Tyler Wideman and Paul Jorgensen were each saddled with two first-half fouls.

"That was a really fun college basketball game and an awesome environment here at Hinkle," said Butler coach LaVall Jordan. "Princeton is going to be near the top of their league again like they always are, and they have a really good team. It's tough to prepare for how they play on a one-day prep, but our assistant coaches and scout team got us ready. This is a really good win."

A Wideman steal and three-point play gave Butler its largest lead of the game at 48-34 with 17:53 remaining. But behind 9-of-15 three-point shooting for the game and 13 points apiece from Amir Bell and Myles Stephens in the second half, Princeton (0-1) would continue to chip away.

As late as 3:39 to play, it was a four-point game (72-68). Butler responded with the next seven points to essentially put the game out of reach.

Butler shot 54 percent from the field, which was slightly out-done by Princeton's 56-percent clip. The Bulldogs committed only seven turnovers and did not allow the visitors one offensive rebound. Butler had a 31-18 edge in rebounds and a 50-26 advantage in points in the paint.

For Martin, it was his second consecutive 20-point output to open the season and the 23rd of his career. It was his 33rd time leading the Bulldogs in scoring as well as his 33rd time leading the team in rebounding.

Bell led Princeton with 22 points, one more than teammate Stephens.

The Bulldogs embark on their first road trip of the season, traveling to Maryland for a Wednesday night Gavitt Tipoff Games contest with the Terrapins. The tip is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on FS1.
