MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The 2017 Butler volleyball season came to an end Friday night with a 3-1 loss to Marquette in the BIG EAST Semifinals (25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20). Butler ended the year with a 23-8 overall record.

Anna Logan was the driving force of the BU attack and therefore was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team. Logan posted 17 kills on 44 swings while adding 16 digs and two blocks for 18 points. She was the only Bulldog to end the match with a double figure kill total.

Bri Lilly and Whitney Beck each recorded eight kills in the setback. Beck led the team with five blocks while Lilly added four. Yet another Bulldog to highlight the defense was libero Taylor Takeda with 14 digs.

Setting up the action for Butler on Friday night was senior Makayla Ferguson. The Martinsville, Ind. native ended her brilliant BU career with 34 assists and eight digs.

Marquette took the first set from visiting Butler behind five kills from BIG EAST Player of the Year Allie Barber, who had no errors in 11 swings.  The second set went to Butler, who rallied back from a 10-6 deficit to tie the match at 14-14. The two teams stayed close and were tied through 24. Two errors on Marquette sealed the win for the Bulldogs. Butler's Anna Logan and Whitney Beck led Butler with four kills each.

Coming back from the break, Marquette scored the first three points and never trailed to take back a one-match advantage. Similar to the set two, the match was tied at 14 as Butler rallied back from an early Marquette lead. Tied through 19 still, Marquette broke through with three straight points. Marquette's Anna Haak (2 kills) and Jenna Rosenthal (1 kill) capped it off for the Golden Eagles.

BU played as the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. The result will push No. 2 seed Marquette to the championship match to face the No. 1 seed, Creighton.
