The Bulldogs split a pair of Saturday contests in Mobile, Ala., as part of the Mardi Gras Invitational hosted by South Alabama. Butler defeated Jackson State, 10-4, in the afternoon before falling 7-1 to McNeese State later in the day. Butler is now 4-5 on the season.
Butler jumped out to a 6-1 advantage after three innings en route to the 10-4 win over Jackson State. Five players in the Bulldogs line-up had at least two hits.
Jenna Foreman went 4-for-4, while
Sarah Dixon belted her first home run of the season. The top three in Butler's order –
Maggie MacBeth, Foreman and Dixon – scored a combined seven runs.
Kaitlin Doud got the start in the circle for the Bulldogs and went four innings to post the win.
In the second game, a five-run second inning by McNeese State was the difference.
Dixon had two of the Bulldogs' five hits in the game.
Kacey Starwalt took the loss for Butler.
The Bulldogs conclude play in Mobile Sunday with a single game against Murray State. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. between the teams that also met Friday to open play in the event.
