INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler Bulldogs posted a 2-0 victory against Fort Wayne on Friday afternoon in the 2017 home opener at Bulldog Park. Senior southpaw
Jeff Schank threw a complete game shutout, ending the contest with 11 strikeouts.
Schank limited Fort Wayne to just four hits over his nine innings of work allowing Butler to improve to 8-6 on the season. He walked two batters, but was dominant against the Mastodon bats for a majority of the day to compile his 11 K's.
Butler gave Schank run support in the first inning by scoring two runs off a pair of doubles.
Zach Jarosz took the first pitch he saw into left field and stole second base to move into scoring position.
Garrett Christman would pick up the RBI with a double to right center that sent Jarosz to the dish.
Butler's second run of the inning came off a double by
Gehrig Parker who found room in left center field to score Christman. Butler's two runs would come off five total hits. Jarosz led the club with a 2-for-4 day from the plate.
The only true scare of the day for Butler came in the sixth inning when Fort Wayne put two runners on off back-to-back singles. Schank would get a huge double play ball 4-6-3 and then strike out Kellogg to get out of the inning.
These two teams will return to Bulldog Park on Sunday afternoon for a 1 PM first pitch.
