NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt Commodores improved to 2-0 in BIG EAST Conference action by posting a 22-4 win over Butler on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs scored three of their four goals in the opening half, but would be outscored 8-1 over the final 30 minutes.
Vanderbilt controlled the tempo early and jumped out to a 5-0 lead on their home field.
Journey Fischbeck would break up the scoring streak with Butler's first goal of the game, a free position shot with 22:35 on the play clock.
The Commodore advantage would grow to 10-1 midway through the opening half, but
Ashley Lizzi would provide Butler with their second goal of the afternoon. Rounding out the scoring in the first half would be
Sydney Pattison with a goal under four minutes to play.
Lizzi would score her second goal of the game for BU in the second half off a free position attempt.
Haley Rayburn and
Allie Storke would split time at goalie for Butler with Rayburn taking the loss. Rayburn made one save in 25 minutes, while Storke posted three in the second half.
BU will return to action with a game at Cincinnati on Saturday, April 1.
