CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Xavier Musketeers recorded a 13-4 win over Butler on Friday afternoon. Big innings for Xavier in the fifth and seventh proved to be the difference. The Musketeers came up with 11 of their 13 runs during those two frames.
 
Butler scored first by putting a pair of runs on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. Zach Jarosz singled to lead off the third and Tyler Houston would send a shot over the wall in left center for two RBI. Houston now has a team-high eight home runs on the season.
 
The BU lead would grow by one in the fourth inning after another homer. Connor Christman would take Lowther out of the park to deep left field. The solo shot to lead off the inning was Christman's first home run of his collegiate career.
 
The Musketeers would get that run back in the bottom half of the inning and then move forward to take a 6-3 lead in the fifth after scoring five runs. Six more runs for the home team in the bottom of the seventh would blow the game wide open and move Xavier to 22-17 on the year. They are now 4-3 in conference action while BU moves to 2-5.
 
Two of the best aces in the conference were on the mound for their respective clubs on Friday afternoon however neither did much damage for their side. Jeff Schank tossed five full innings but was hit for six earned runs off six hits. He had five strikeouts, but would walk four batters. Zac Lowther didn't even make it five innings as he was pulled after four complete. He allowed three earned runs off the two home runs, but struck out eight.
 
The win went to Trey Schramm who pitched three full innings after Lowther's exit. He shut down the BU bats to just one hit while striking out three.
 
River Pitlock, Jack Pilcher and Quentin Miller rounded out the effort for BU on the mound. The Bulldogs will regroup and come together at Hayden Field for the rematch tomorrow at 1 PM.
