WASHINGTON, D.C. – Game one of a three-game series at Georgetown went to the Hoyas on Saturday night with the home team recording a 13-6 victory.
Tyler Houston went 2-for-4 from the dish with a double and a home run to record a team-high three RBI in a losing effort.
Georgetown posted seven runs over the opening three innings of the game on Saturday night to take a commanding lead. Butler would make things interesting in the seventh with a three-run inning highlighted by Houston's homer to left. Any chances of a comeback would come to a close in the eighth however as Georgetown tacked on six more runs to take a 13-3 advantage.
Harrison Freed led the club with three hits. He and Houston were the only two Bulldogs to record more than one. BU RBIs were rounded out by
Gehrig Parker,
Connor Christman and
Kyle Niemiec who each recorded one.
The top of the order for Georgetown decided the outcome with DeRenzi, Racusin, Kuzbel and Garza all recording RBIs. DeRenzi and Garza were excellent with three RBI, two hits and one run scored each.
The win went to Cushing while the loss fell to
Ryan Pepiot. Cushing lasted 6.2 innings action and struck out six batters. Pepiot got through three innings and struck out four.
These two teams will return to Shirley Povich Field tomorrow for a conference doubleheader. Game one will begin at 11 AM and will only last seven innings. Game two will be a full nine inning contest.
