INDIANAPOLIS – It took all five sets for Butler to defeat Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon, but in the end the Bulldogs would improve to 3-0 on the young season. The Colonials forced a fifth set, but taking the fourth 29-27. Momentum would then shift back to the home team with Butler scoring the first 12 points of the fifth set to pick up the win.
Whitney Beck was fantastic against Robert Morris with a team-high 24 kills to go along with 17 digs and seven blocks. She was one of three Bulldogs to post a double-double, joining
Makayla Ferguson and
Rachel Klitzing.
Ferguson once again set up the action with a match-high 53 assists. She chipped in with 14 digs and six blocks defensively. Action at the net was controlled by Klitzing who came up with a career-high 14 blocks. The true freshman was also credited with 10 kills.
As a team, Butler recorded 20.5 blocks and posted a .278 attack percentage. Robert Morris only managed three team blocks while hitting .130.
Taylor Takeda and
Natalie Ravenell also impacted the win with their high level of play. Takeda made a match-high 19 digs and also tied Beck for the team lead with two service aces. Ravenell was in the box score with 15 kills, eight digs and three blocks.
