INDIANAPOLIS- The Butler Bulldogs lost their first match in the Michigan Invite to the Wolverines in three sets (13-25, 22-25, 19-25). The team now drops to 3-2 on the season. Outside hitter
Whitney Beck led the team with 12 kills and 10 digs.
The Wolverines won the game with a higher hitting percentage than the Bulldogs, ending with a .309 percentage compared to BU's .103. The Bulldogs did take control at the net, finishing the match with a total of seven blocks compared to Michigan's six.
Butler's dig leader was libero
Taylor Takeda with 11. Makayla Ferguson and Beck both provided strong serves, ending the match with two aces each. Ferguson helped the Bulldogs out with 19 assists, but was overpowered by Michigan setter, MacKenzie Welsh who posted 41.
The Bulldogs put up a tough battle against the Wolverines (3-1), but lost in three tough sets. The second set was a not an easy fight for either team, as BU held on for the majority, but fell just short at the end.
BU has two more matches left in the invite, playing Green Bay and New Hampshire on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Ann Arbor.
