Box Score

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Bulldogs won their first match of the BU-BSU Tournament with a 3-0 decision over Evansville (30-28, 25-13, 25-22). Tonight's contest was played at Worthen Arena, on Ball State's campus. Tomorrow's action will be held inside Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Butler's fifth-straight victory featured Anna Logan making her season debut. Last year's honorable mention All-American had missed the first nine matches of the season due to injury. Logan took on a new role on Friday night, by leading the team in digs with 16. She was also credited with two assists and one service ace.

The offense was created by setter Makayla Ferguson who handed out a match-high 32 assists. Ferguson was in the box score with three digs, three blocks and two kills.

The team's kill leader was once again redshirt-junior Whitney Beck. The talented outside hitter notched another double-double with a team-high 15 kills to go along with 11 digs. BU also got a lift from freshman Natalie Ravenell. She posted eight kills and 11 digs.

The first set went to Butler even though the Purple Aces came storming back to push the action into extra points. BU held a comfortable 13-6 lead early as Evansville called their first timeout. The Bulldogs looked to be well on their way to a win at 23-15, but the Aces would pull even at 24-24. Action remained knotted up at 28-28, but a kill from Rachel Klitzing followed by a Ball State attack error would put BU up 1-0.

Set two was never in question as Butler broke a 4-4 tie to race out to a 14-6 edge. Beck would come up big down the stretch by collecting the final two kills of the set to put BU on top 2-0.

Set three featured another large BU lead early, but just like set one, Evansville would fight until the final serve. Butler led 12-5 after a kill from Klitzing, but the Purple Aces would get back within a point at 19-18. Butler responded with a 5-1 run to reach match point and Whitney Beck would end any hope of a comeback with her 15th and final kill of the evening.

The Bulldogs will play two games tomorrow during day three of the BU-BSU Tournament. They host Duquesne at 12 PM and end the day with a 7 PM match against the Ball State Cardinals.
