INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs are now 2-0 in the BU-BSU Tournament after defeating the Duquesne Dukes 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-18).
Anna Logan led the way to victory with 17 kills and 14 digs.
Logan returned to Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon to lead all players with 17 kills off 31 attempts. She ended the contest with a .452 attack percentage, helping the Bulldogs end the match hitting .317 as a team.
Whitney Beck was also largely involved in the BU attack. The redshirt junior connected on 10 kills while providing the Bulldogs with five digs. This was the first contest this year where Beck did not record a double-double.
Additional Bulldogs to impact the outcome included
Brooke Gregory and
Natalie Ravenell. Gregory recorded eight kills on just 11 swings (.636) while Ravenell finished the game with seven kills and seven digs.
BU was without starting libero
Taylor Takeda (family emergency) on Saturday, which put
Rachel Schultz into the lineup as the team's starting libero. Schultz was second on the team with 11 digs.
The first set was all Butler as the Bulldogs raced out to a 9-0 lead. The Dukes would manage a 6-1 scoring run to pull within four points at 15-11, but a 5-0 BU run moments later would push the score to 22-14. Butler never trailed in the opener to go up 1-0.
Set two was tight at the start, but a 7-1 BU scoring run would give the home team a 19-13 cushion. Beck and Gregory combined for 10 of Butler's 15 kills in the second set allowing BU to win 25-18.
The third and final set featured a late 8-1 BU scoring run that put the Bulldogs at match point, 24-17. Logan's sixth kill of the set would put the Bulldogs in the win column 25-18.
Butler's final match of the 2017 BU-BSU Tournament will be played tonight at 7 PM. Butler and Ball State will play for the championship as each team head's into the contest 2-0 in tournament play.
